HOW'S YOUR BREATH?

Developing an easy, flowing breath is the cornerstone of any yoga practice. Not only is connecting to your breath a method for staying present, but learning to regulate our breathing helps us remain (mentally) focused and steady, even as the physical postures challenge us.

The relationship between our breathing and our state of mind is reciprocal. How we feel impacts how we breathe (think about how we breathe when we are stressed out) but conversely, how we breath can also have a huge impact on how we feel. After periods of extended stress or anxiety the body can take time to let go of unhealthy breathing patterns. Through a consistent yoga practice we learn tools and techniques to regulate and reset the breath with significant effects on both body and mind.

One quote…

It’s like when you’re flying in an airplane. Whenever severe turbulence comes along, the seatbelt keeps you from getting thrown around the cabin. Mindful breathing is your seatbelt in everyday life - it keeps you safe and in the present moment. If you know how to breathe, how to sit calmly and quietly, then you have your seatbelt and you are always safe.
