I DON'T KNOW

This week my son returned to daycare post lockdown and I was reminded that the human heart is wide enough to hold opposite emotions in equal intensity. Sometimes you just don’t know how you feel or you feel it all at once. Desperate for some toddler free time, devastated to be apart from him. Ecstatic for restrictions to lift, terrified they might return. Worried for our health and our economy in equal measure.

It is the same with our opinions. We can easily fall into the trap of rigid either-or thinking. But we are heartbreakingly more complicated than that. With the world becoming more deeply divided and each one of us often determined to be right this is a concept worth holding close in our personal and political lives. I don’t know is a humble position to take.

One quote…

Doubt is not a pleasant condition but certainty is absurd.

Voltaire

One question…

What do you really know for sure?
