CLEARING THE WAY

According to yoga philosophy our natural state is one of love, compassion and wisdom. But sometimes (hmmm, let’s be honest, a lot of the time) this potential gets clouded and in challenging situations we can easily forget how to connect to all this innate goodness within ourselves.

Underneath all the conditioning we are loving awareness. But sometimes even the great spiritual truths can feel cliche when you’re having a bad day and you’ve scrolled past one too many inspirational quotes on Instagram. I found the words below really valuable in thinking a little deeper about the potential I hold within myself for kindness and peace, particularly when I’m feeling pretty much the opposite. I hope they help you too.

One quote…

Many times I say learn the art of love, but what I really mean is: learn the art of removing all that hinders love. It is a negative process. It is like digging a well. You go on removing many layers of earth, stones, rocks, and then suddenly there is water. The water was always there, it was an undercurrent. Now you have removed all the barriers, the water is available. So is love. Love is the undercurrent of your being. It is already flowing, but there are many rocks, many layers of earth to be removed.

One question…

What is getting in the way? What needs to be cleared away?
