A NEW SHORE

Sometimes life just hurts. So, when the chips are down, what are our options?

Generosity, ethical discipline, patience, enthusiastic effort, concentration and wisdom are known in Buddhism as the six paramitas or “perfections.” They are the daily practices that, when put into action, reduce our pain and suffering and move us towards better relationships and a more joyful life.

The Chinese character used for paramita means “crossing over to the other shore.” These are the observances that enable us to mobilise when we find ourselves trapped on the shore of anger, pain and sorrow. If we find ourselves stuck and we want to cross over the other side, it is always possible, but we have to make an effort. To dream of reaching a new destination is not enough - we must pack our bags and set out on the journey.

One quote…

The way we rise from every sorrow in life, is the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen.

Rupi Kaur

One question…

Next time you are feeling stuck, which practice will help you cross over?
