THE ART OF ATTENTION
The first cognitive skill we learn in yoga is concentration. We train our mind to watch the breath or pay particular attention to a sensation or action occurring in the body.
The importance of this skill cannot be understated. Attention - what we allow ourselves to notice - literally determines our experience. In a world where we are being asked to process obscene amounts of information each day, your attention, and being able to land it where you choose, is arguably your biggest asset.
It always amuses me when people think of meditation as “woo woo” or acquiescent. In fact, what an incredible skill to be able to take the energy of your attention (that is usually scattered in so many directions) and gather it behind one moment, thought or task.
One quote…
In a world with infinite information and opportunity, you don’t grow by knowing or doing more, you grow by your ability to correctly focus on less.
Mark Manson
One question…
Am I focusing on the right things this week?
